Hi!
It was such a warm first day of camp! We explored the many different animals we have around the farm.
In the morning, we explored around the pond. We found insects and identified different plants. We found “roly poly” bugs which are actually called Armadillidiidae. They are often found in wet, dark places because they enjoy eating mold. We also identified different plants around the garden. We found a plant commonly known as wine and roses, which often attracts hummingbirds.
We made a chive dip for cauliflower and broccoli. Chives are often used to cook with but it has medicinal properties, too. It helps with upset stomachs and can prevent bad breath.
Each group does a different part of animal chores daily. Today the water group did the non-milking goat chores. That includes refilling the goat water pails, refilling their food, and feeding the sheep.
We searched around the pond on our reptile/amphibian hike. Before we ventured out around the pond we discussed some criteria for what a reptile and amphibian is. We determined reptiles lay eggs, are cold blooded, and breathe air.
The kids made natural art using things they found around the pond. They saw example cards then got the opportunity to work on a project alone or with a group.
We walked Oscar, the goat kid, around the farm. He is just learning to walk wearing a halter so he was a little stubborn at times.
We hope you had a great day at camp and we will see you tomorrow!
