Survival Week 1 Day 3

Tollgate campers enjoyed a very wet Wednesday!

The pepper groups participated in a chocolate swamp activity. They used hula hoops and carpet squares to cross the chocolate swamp.

These campers used teamwork to get more materials to finish the path across the swamp.

Rain showers are fun at camp! Staff and volunteers led camp songs!

The pepper groups took care of the animals in between rain showers.

This pepper group collected eggs in the chicken coup.

The rabbits were taking shelter out of the rain. Fresh water in their cage is necessary for survival.

The goats were thankful for a clean pen!

Jenna, Spring-rain, and Gracie are at fair with their kids this week. You can check them out with your campers at the county fair located at Springfield Oaks in Davisburg!

The campers made blueberry muffins in garden kitchen today!

They mashed bananas and dates to sweeten the muffins.

Ms. Shea lead preparation for a fruit salad this afternoon.

Here are the recipes from today!

Morning: Blueberry Muffins

Dry ingredients

2 cups gluten-free flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1tsp. cinnamon
1/3 cup coconut flakes (optional)

Wet ingredients

1 mashed banana
1 flax egg (1 tbsp. flax meal mixed with 2 tbsp. of water)
3 mashed dates
1 ½ cup rice milk (can add another ¼ cup to make more moist)
1 cup blueberries

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Combine wet ingredients in a separate bowl and then add to dry ingredients. Mix together. Add muffins to muffin trays with paper cups and bake for about 25 minutes.

Afternoon: Fruit Salad

Strawberries
Mango
Kiwi

Slice/dice and combine in a bowl. An optional dressing is to mix liquid sweetener (such as pure maple syrup or honey) and lime to mix in with the fruit.

All of the pepper groups traveled to the forest to continue adding to their shelters started earlier in the week.

Materials for protection were discussed to solve the real difficulty of staying dry.

Edible weeds were located all over site and adventurous campers tried a nutritious snack! What plants can your camper identify to eat in the wild to survive?

Check out the lost and found if your camper is missing clothing, lunch box items, or shoes!
