Tollgate Farm 4-H Club at the 2019 Oakland County Fair!

Fair week is always a very busy week for kids in the Tollgate Farm 4-H Club. Our goat showmen and dairy goats turned in an awesome performance. Congratulations to Oakland County 2019 Grand Champion Goat Gracie and her Reserve Dairy Goat Showman handler Aaron! Also congrats to Gracie, Penny and Ivy for coming in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for best udder. All our 2019 Goat Showmen did an outstanding job with their goats. We are looking forward to the The Michigan State Fair, LLC !!!!

The Club also achieved another record in sheep showmanship with ewe Nora bringing home the Club’s first sheep trophy for Reserve Champion Ewe – way to go Nora!!!

As far as Club projects go, Tollgate Farm 4-H Club received 1st place in the Decorated Straw Bale competition and 2nd Place for the Club Banner. Additionally the kids put in individual projects earning ribbins and trophies in plant science, art, creative writing, wood working, and more.

Participating in fair is about a lot more than the trophies. The club kids work together, helping each other prepare and care for their animals. Through working on Club projects they learn to work together and present as a group to a judge. It is about planning the project and executing. It is about handling winning and sometimes being disappointed. The kids also have a whole lot of fun at the fair.

More updates to come after the Michigan State Fair!
