Tollgate Farm 4-H Club is a community 4-H club covering multiple project areas including Business, Animal Science, Plant Science, Food & Nutrition and more … Our members range in age from 5 – 19. Cost to join is $20 which goes to the Oakland County 4-H office. This Club is a Farm to Market Club. Our members produce items to sell at farm stand sales.
Our Products include produce, dried fruit, goat milk soap, goat milk bath bombs, seedlings, eggs and more. These are all the result of our youth members’ activities. Proceeds raised from the sale of these items fund future Club activities.
Youth members are encouraged to participate in the Oakland County and Michigan State fairs. The Club currently coordinates an animal leasing program focusing on Dairy Goats and Market Lambs. In the new 4-H year we may add chickens and beef to the list. This supports youth who want to show animals. We also have a number of youth who submit independent projects in areas such as wood working, art, crafts, plants and food.
Tollgate Farm 4-H Club is open to new youth members age 5 – 19 for the 2019-2020 year. We are looking forward to field trips to Cook’s Dairy and to a small ruminant workshop in September. The Club will be a participant in Tollgate’s annual Pumpkinfest on October 5th and 6th. In October we will be closing the garden and beginning to prepare for our annual farm stand at Light Up the Night Novi. There are many opportunities for kids to learn valuable life skills through participation in a broad range of activities. This includes business and marketing through our Farm Stand, hands on animal care and showmanship projects, learning to produce value added food items for farm stand sales, hands on soap making, growing veggies and herbs from seed to harvest, all with an emphasis on sustainability.
