Water Camp: Day 2

We have had a great second day of Water Camp!

We took care of all of the farm animals. Ask your camper which chores they did today!

Campers used an empty milk jug to create their own watering cans. We poked holes in the lids of the jugs for easy watering. Campers will be bringing them home today!

Our Garden Kitchen Coordinator, Ms. Pam, was not feeling well today, so we had a destination snack of Cheerios this morning.

We went fishing in the farm’s pond and caught a wide variety of fish. We have bluegill, sunfish, bass, perch, and many other fish breeds. One camper accidentally snagged a snapping turtle, too!

Each camper received a T-shirt as part of their camp registration, and we tie-dyed those shirts this afternoon. The shirts will be washed and returned to the campers on Thursday so that they can wear them on the last day of camp.

We sampled some water from the pond and studied the insects and other critters that we found in our samples. We used a stereoscope to magnify some water critters, too. Ask your camper what they found during their pond study!

We had another destination snack of popsicles this afternoon. We hope Ms. Pam feels better tomorrow so we can get back in the kitchen and cook up some more yummy recipes!

We continued to work on our STEM project this afternoon. We began testing our boats and talked about which design elements worked well and which ones didn’t. In general, the boats that had wider bottoms and not much extra weight fared better in the testing pool. Ask your camper about their design and whether it sank or floated when we put it to the test!

Water Camp is of to a great start, and we’re looking forward to sharing the rest of the week with your camper!
